Getting More Out of Your Cannabis
Whether you are a beginner cannabis consumer, or an experienced connoisseur, everyone wants to get the most out of their cannabis. By using your cannabis efficiently and ensuring your body is properly aligned to absorb THC, you can reap the most benefits. This not only ensures a potent, stoney experience but is also beneficial for medical patients looking to absorb the necessary amount of THC to help with their symptoms or conditions.
To help British Columbians get the most from their cannabis, we have put together a list of a few tips and tricks to prime your cannabis and body for ideal THC absorption.
Not only does exercising before cannabis use get your heart rate and blood pumping, to deliver THC throughout the body quicker, but it also helps with THC tolerance. As THC is stored in body fat, individuals who exercise regularly are always releasing these stored levels of THC into their bloodstream. Thus, reducing their overall THC level to allow their body to absorb more of this potent cannabinoid during their next toke session.
Take Your Vitamins
Cannabis works best when your body is already optimized to receive it. Taking multivitamins opens up the bodies circulatory system, which helps it absorb nutrients – including THC. In addition, healthy fats help to aid the body in processing and absorbing nutrients, which is why many cannabis oils are mixed with MCT oil (coconut oil). Coconut oil, omega 3’s and olive oil are all good sources of healthy fats which can improve your bodies ability to absorb cannabinoids.
Don’t Hold Your Hit Forever
Contrary to popular belief, holding in your hit longer does not actually help with THC absorption. Neither does taking a huge hit as your lungs can only absorb so much cannabis at one time. It is best to take moderate hits, pulling in as if you were taking a normal breath, and then release. This will cause you to waste less bud and will help you to achieve a higher effect.
Consume Quality Cannabis
While it may not need to be said, quality flower is always better. Firstly, quality cannabis tends to be more potent with higher levels of THC, thus providing more cannabinoids to be consumed. Quality cannabis is also more potent in other factors, such as terpenes, which work with THC in the body to produce various effects from physical relaxation to cerebral invigoration. Consider Western Family Flowers for your next cannabis experience and reap the rewards of high-quality flower!
Know Your Tolerance
Your body can only hold so much THC at one time, which is why it is often suggested to individuals who are no longer feeling the effects of THC to take a t-break. In this case, the user would either quit THC products for a period of 30-90 days, or they may want to consider CBD flower or edibles as an alternative for a few weeks to help deplete the body of THC levels. CBD counteracts the effects of THC, making it an excellent candidate to reset your body so that the next time you take a hit, the effects will be more potent.
We hope that this post has provided you some places to start if you are looking to improve your THC absorption and get more out of your cannabis. Leading a healthy lifestyle goes hand-in-hand for many cannabis users and works great to benefit the body’s ability to absorb cannabinoids.
Surprising Benefits of Cannabis Flower
With the growing popularity of cannabis concentrates, oils, edibles, and other products, it is important to remember that cannabis flower is still the most whole, full-spectrum cannabis offering on the market today. As concentrates tend to be boiled down to a pure cannabinoid oil, many of these products no longer contain vital terpenes and flavonoids, which work alongside THC to produce the desired effects of that particular strain.
Choosing the whole flower is the most ideal way to absorb all of the nutrients that cannabis has to offer – and reap the following benefits.
Chronic Pain Management
National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released a massive report in January 2017 detailing many of the plant’s benefits. One of the most crucial findings was its effectiveness for managing chronic pain, which is also one of the most common reasons for cannabis use. One of the reasons cannabis is so effective at managing pain is due to the anti-inflammatory effects whereby cannabis helps to reduce the inflammatory response to pain. This is particularly beneficial to patients with arthritis, which is typically caused by inflammation, as well as chronic pain due to injury or illness, such as fibromyalgia. A study from 2008 found that THC has 20x the anti-inflammatory potency of Aspirin and double that of hydrocortisone, making it an extremely potent treatment option.
Anxiety and Stress Relief
One of the second most common uses for cannabis is self-medication for anxiety and stress. According to a recent study on cannabis use and anxiety, it was found that lower doses of THC (7.5 milligrams) was the ideal “Goldilocks” zone for anxiety relief. Higher doses (12.5 milligrams) actually resulted in an increase in heart rate and anxiety for individuals predisposed to this condition. This study was done with non-regular cannabis users, so cannabis tolerance could be a factor in anxiety relief. Meaning that beginners should stick to lower doses, while more experienced users with a higher tolerance level may not experience the same level of heightened anxiety with a larger dose. As every individual is different, it is best to do a little experimenting to see what works for you.
Can Slow Alzheimer’s Disease
Another impressive and surprising benefit of cannabis use is that it can actually slow and even stop the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. A 2006 study revealed that THC is able to reduce the formation of amyloid plaques, which are associated with Alzheimer’s and known to kill brain cells. THC actually works to block the enzyme in the brain that produces these, thereby slowing or stalling Alzheimer’s progression.
Can Help With Weight Management
Another surprising benefit of cannabis is that it can help with weight management. This seems counterintuitive given that cannabis is well-known to result in “the munchies”, however, this phenomenon seems to primarily affect beginner users and those with low tolerance, as opposed to more experienced users. The American Journal of Medicine published a study that found cannabis users have a lower BMI than non-cannabis users and has a better insulin response – which is handy if you’re munchies include chocolate or any other unhealthy sweets!
Improved Lung Capacity
Most surprising is perhaps that the act of smoking cannabis does not degrade lung capacity, but can actually improve upon it. The 2012 study had researchers test the lung function of over 5,000 young adults over 20 years. The results were incredible, showing that tobacco users lost lung function while cannabis users actually had an increase in lung capacity. While some individuals believe this is simply due to the deeper inhale that occurs with cannabis use, others have noted that cannabis acts as a bronchodilator – hence its applications for asthmatic patients.
The Power of BC Bud
“BC Bud” is a phrase that is known worldwide to mean quality cannabis. It is a commonly accepted fact that British Columbia produces some of the best cannabis – in the world. But what is it that makes BC Bud the best?
Short History of Cannabis in Canada
The legacy of British Columbia’s cannabis is due to a range of factors, which work together in order to create this household name in weed. Part of this has come from the Province’s rich history with cannabis and cannabis-use, which began during the Vietnam War. It was during this time that 30,000 refugees from California, Oregon, and Washington flocked to the Fraser Valley and the Okanagan, getting involved in sowing hemp and cannabis. Shortly after, the first licensed producers were given licenses from Health Canada in 1961.
While there were still steep legal repercussions for the use of cannabis, growing it was less frowned upon thanks to the agreements with Health Canada. Despite the still non-legal status, this did not stop many backyard farmers from trying their hand at growing this powerful plant, giving BC a headstart on cannabis production. It was not until 2001 that Health Canada determined a “medical marijuana” policy allowing cannabis treatments for patients seeking end-of-life care, and for those suffering from debilitating symptoms. Thus opening the gates for marijuana consumption to medical users.
By 2004, 53% of BC residents had tried cannabis at least once. However, due to the lack of legalization, many users had trouble getting their hands on cannabis – thus the underground market continued to thrive. In fact, just last year (2017) it was found that only 10.4% of all cannabis had been obtained legally through Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR).
With the status of legalization changing on October 17, 2018, the government is hoping to stomp out some of the illegal markets in preference for their own government regulated product, produced through the two dozen licensed producers in British Columbia.
Due to BC’s longstanding history with cannabis, there is a coveted level of community acceptance amongst British Columbians, especially those in the Greater Vancouver Area, in regards to cannabis use. The tolerance is true amongst individuals living in the province, as well as with legal reinforcement in terms of police and drug-related offenses. In fact, according to 2016 statistics, cannabis-related offenses were among the lowest in British Columbia with a drop of 13% from 2015 to 2016. It was also reported that there was a large decrease in cannabis use by youth (declined 17%) and possession (declined 22%) in those years.
When it came time to discuss the prospect of cannabis legalization, a whopping 79% of British Columbians reported being for this change in a 2017 survey.
Another factor that has had great influence on the power of BC Bud is the climate within British Columbia, which has some of the most hospitable weather in the country. The conditions of which are perfect for growing marijuana! Due to the cool fall and warm summers, cannabis plants grow both resilient and tall when planted outdoors. When this is combined with the heavy rainfalls and fertile soils, it is not hard to see why cannabis grows well here.
While outdoor grows see great success in the province, greenhouses and indoor gardens are rising in popularity as well, giving growers more control over the environment and conditions that their plants are subject to. Thus further improving the quality of our coveted cannabis.
Production Volume & Knowledge
Due to the long-standing history of British Columbians and cannabis, we have a province filled with skilled cannabis producers, breeders and buyers.
With lax law enforcement and a community with a passion for cannabis, this has brought about a large number of growers. Not only has this increased production volume of cannabis in BC, allowing individuals throughout the country (and the world) to enjoy our potent bud, but it has also bred a healthy level of competition. This has caused growers to seek out better methods to grow in order to provide more yields and a better quality product to beat out the competition. This is further reinforced by a community of cannabis users who are knowledgeable and experienced; British Columbians know what we want and that is quality, craft cannabis which has been organically grown.
The history, passion and knowledge of British Columbians and our relationship has cannabis has proved to be very successful in building the name of BC Bud into a quality product known around the world. Western Family Flowers is no exception to this rule and we hope to make our fellow Canadians proud of our bud, and continue doing justice to the “BC Bud” reputation.
