How to Choose the Right CBD Oil for You

Find the Right CBD Oil

Wouldn’t it be nice if you knew exactly how to choose CBD oil? At one point we asked ourselves the same question.

It’s not an easy question because the answer is multi-layered. But anything worth learning is worth learning the right way, isn’t it?

Let’s dive right into the article and answer this question for you.

What to Look for When Buying CBD Oil

Do you want to learn the secrets of finding a premier CBD oil? We’ve compiled a list of some of the most pertinent information to assist in your decision-making process. Check them out here.

Brand Reputation/Mission Statement

Some companies that sell CBD oil and other CBD products care more about profits than integrity. However, a large number of companies do care about its customers and the quality, safety, and efficacy of its products. This passion is reflected in its mission statement and reputation.

Read the CBD companies website front to back and top to bottom. Focus on the “About Us” page, the mission statement and the customer reviews on their CBD oils.

This research will help you decide whether or not the company is right for you. It’s better to have a company that’s authentic, trustworthy and has the right values. This is step one in the process of finding the best CBD oil for you.

Source of Hemp

Hemp, or hemp extract to be exact, is the main ingredient in CBD oil. Therefore, it matters where a company sources its hemp from. Do they import it from countries, like China, with a notorious reputation for poor quality hemp? Or do they source it from states in the U.S. or Northern Europe that are highly regarded for their quality of hemp?

Let’s look at some facts for a minute. Hemp farmers in the United States are required to be licensed or authorized with their State Department of Agriculture or the USDA to legally grow hemp. Additionally, the hemp produced by licensed growers must get tested to ensure the levels of THC are less than the legal limit of 0.3% by dry weight.

With this oversight in place, growers in the U.S. produce some of the highest-quality hemp plants in the world. Colorado, for example, is a big bonus.

Extract Type

Consider the hemp extract used to create the CBD oil. The three main types include full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate.

A full-spectrum CBD oil contains many phytochemicals found in hemp. So, besides CBD, you’re also getting other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other nutrients.

These beneficial molecules promote the entourage effect. This scientific concept states that the combination of these plant molecules produces a stronger and greater effect, compared to the effect of any single phytochemical.

A broad-spectrum CBD oil is very similar to a full-spectrum CBD oil. There’s one major exception — it doesn’t have trace amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

CBD oil made from isolate only contains CBD (cannabidiol). Every other plant molecule was removed to leave CBD in its pure isolated state.

All three of these options make good choices. Often the decision comes down to whether someone wants THC in their CBD oil, or not.

The hemp extract type is just one factor, albeit important, in the decision-making process of finding the right CBD oil for you.

Testing/Safety

Not all CBD companies test the purity and safety of its CBD oil. Yet, a good number of them do. And those are the ones we care about.

When a company sends its CBD oil or raw hemp extract to a third-party lab for testing, it can simply pay for a cannabinoid analysis, or for a full panel of tests.

A full panel includes an analysis of cannabinoids, terpenes, pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and mycotoxins. Chemicals and toxins shouldn’t be in your food, nor should they be inside your CBD oil.

The clear choice here is finding a CBD company that does a full panel of testing. To find the lab testing results look on the company’s website for the name, ‘Certificate of Analysis (COA)’, lab test reports, or something similar. You’ll either find links that take you to lab reports, a screen shot, or a pdf with the results.

Make sure the lab name appears at the top of the lab report. Do a little digging on the lab to make sure they’re a third party (no connection to the CBD company) and that they’re a legitimate lab.

We don’t recommend buying CBD oil from a company who doesn’t perform a full panel of lab tests.

Potency

Let’s talk about the importance of CBD potency for a bit. This topic matters because, just like goldilocks and the three bears’, it’s key to find the sweet spot in your dosing.

CBD oils usually contain 20 to 30 mg of CBD per ml. Anything below 10 mg/ml has a very low potency, and a product with 50 mg/ml or more has a very high potency.

New CBD users may want to start with a low potency option and slowly work towards a higher potency.

List of Ingredients

Moving on to another important topic — ingredients. Good CBD oils are typically made with one of the following carrier oils: MCT oil, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, or hemp seed oil. A carrier oil helps deliver the beneficial contents of a CBD oil throughout the body and improves the absorption rate.

Better CBD oils will contain an organic carrier oil, because organic ingredients don’t contain impurities and are much better for your health.

Besides the type of carrier oil used, good CBD oils might include an essential oil for flavoring and increase its homeopathic effects. But, other than that, you shouldn’t see any preservatives, additives, artificial colors or flavorings. If you do, move on to a different brand that knows how to keep it simple and healthy.

Return Policy

Read the CBD company’s return policy. In our experience, the best CBD companies allow you to return CBD oil within a window of 14 to 30 days from the purchase date, if you’re unsatisfied with the product.

This kind of policy is a testament to the company’s confidence in its products and shows their dedication to customer satisfaction.

How Much Does CBD Oil Cost?

Like other wellness products, CBD oils also have a wide price range. CBD oil can start as low as $25 and reach $200 plus. Many of the points we discussed above contribute to the wide price range.

Less expensive CBD oils generally have these characteristics: low potency, standard ingredients, and zero or a limited number of third-party tests.

In contrast, CBD oils at the higher end of the price range often share some similar traits. For example, high priced CBD oils usually have organic ingredients, a strong potency, a high-quality source of hemp, and a full panel of tests by independent labs.

Premium CBD oils could also be made in a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) facility and undergo supercritical CO2 extraction.

A GMP facility ensures product consistency and compliance with quality control standards. And supercritical CO2 extraction is one of the safest and most gentle ways to extract CBD and other phytochemicals from the hemp plant. This method is more expensive than ethanol extraction, for instance, and is the reason the price could be more.

Here’s the deal. Price matters in nearly every buying scenario. And CBD oil is no different. A higher price may put you off initially, but really weigh the pros and cons of each product before you decide.

After all, you’re probably interested in CBD oil because of its potential health benefits. Consider our advice from earlier and find a CBD oil that hits the sweet spot between a price you’re happy with that’s also high in quality.

How to Buy CBD Oil

Depending on the state you live in, buying CBD oil can be easy to do in person. To give yourself even more options, going online is your best bet. Plus, many companies have quick order processing and shipping time, helping to get CBD oil in your hands in a flash.

As mentioned earlier, look at the company’s return and exchange policy. The ability to return a product can make the buying decision a bit less stressful.

Also, we want to suggest using coupons to buy CBD oil. A discount of 10% to 25% off is a big saving and means more money in your pocket.

Additionally, coupons are an excellent way to test out a few CBD oils to see which one provides the most benefit.

How to Find Good CBD Oil

The first thing to do is decide on the extract type you want, your price point, and ideal potency. These three items will give you a roadmap and help narrow down your CBD oil search results.

Once you have these things written down or in your head, use some keywords to run a search in Google. For instance, if you want to find an ‘affordable high potency full-spectrum CBD oil’, then use that phrase in the search box.

Another trick is to search for ‘the ultimate guide to the best CBD oils in 2020’. This search is uber specific and will produce some epic content and hopefully some terrific options.

Now, pick the top three CBD oils based on your preliminary search. Then do a deep dive into each of these oils. Read about each company, its mission and see where it sources hemp from.

Also, look for third-party testing results, also called the Certificate of Analysis (COA) on the company websites. Finally, read the customer reviews and testimonials.

After this thorough research, you should know exactly which CBD oil to buy.

What Is the Best CBD Oil

By now you probably realized that a lot of factors go into the question, “how to choose CBD oil”. Just like buying a new car, it’s fun to learn about all the specs and bells and whistles. In the end, it’s usually the small details that help you decide on the best car. This concept is very similar to finding and ultimately buying the right CBD oil for you.

Of course, some CBD oils are better than others. In fact, you’ll find many reviews online that talk about the best CBD oils on the market. Even though these reviews are helpful, in the end, make the decision that feels right to you.

Use your research and our tips to guide you to a stand out product. Because the best CBD oil for someone else may not end up being the best CBD oil for you.

Good luck and let us know what CBD oil you chose!
