Equipment

  • 1 Oven
  • 1 Baking Sheet
  • 1 Sheet Parchment Papewr
  • 1 Hand Herb Grinder or Scissors
  • 1 Medium Saucepan
  • 1 Wooden Spoon
  • 1 Kitchen Thermometer
  • 1 Cheesecloth (or Mesh Strainer)
  • 1 Slow Cooker optional
  • 1 Mason Jar

Ingredients

  • ½ oz Cannabis Flower
  • 8 oz. Butter
  • 1.5 cups Water
  • 1 cup Oil of Choice (if infusing oil instead of butter)

Instructions

Decarboxylating Your Marijuana

  • Spread the marijuana evenly on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Bake it in the oven at 240°F (115°C) for about 40 minutes.
  • Check on the cannabis frequently while in the oven, mix it softly every 10 minutes or so making sure it doesn't burn.
  • Once the plant color changes from a bright green to a deep semi-brown green the plant is decarboxylated.
  • Remove the plant material from the oven and let it cool on your baking sheet.
  • Break up the decarboxylated plant material using your grinder, a pair of scissors, or with your hands. (As if readying for rolling a joint.)

Infusing Your Butter or Oil

  • Add your 1.5 cups of water into the saucepan.
  • Add your 8 oz. of butter or oil into the saucepan.
  • Turn on stovetop to a very low heat, for a light simmer want to avoid any burning.
  • Add your ground up decarbed cannabis into the butter and water liquid.
  • Make sure temperature does not go over 180°F with your thermometer.
  • Stir every 30 minutes.
  • Instead of stovetop option you can place in a slow cooker instead on the lowest setting. (Still stir every 30 minutes.)
  • After 4 hours of simmering, strain with cheesecloth or strainer.
  • Pour into mason jar or other container immediately, let cool to room temperature.
  • Once cool, use immediately or store in refrigerator (or freezer). (Can store for up to 6 months.)

Notes

The longer you infuse your butter on the stovetop while simmering, the more potent your cannabutter will be.
